Sew-a-thon 2020

Bags for Kids

A Community-Wide Project to Help Children in Foster Care

The idea for Bags for Kids was born one October day in 1999 when Carol Punske asked Sandy Loomis to help her make bags for foster children so they would no longer need to carry their belongings in garbage bags. After months of planning, Carol and Sandy sent out flyers asking folks to join them for a day of bag making. They expected about 20 people to join them, but word got out and around 200 people wanted to sew! The first Sew-A-Thon was held on January 22, 2000.
