The Board of Directors of Aviva Children’s Services is pleased to announce the appointment of Tyson Gillespie as the agency’s new Executive Director. He will be replacing Bob Heslinga who will retiring after 10 years of dedicated service at this social service agency. “We’re exceptionally pleased that Tyson has taken on this leadership role,” said Krystal Adams, Aviva’s President of the Board. “His broad knowledge of the foster care system coupled with years of experience in behavioral health, make him well qualified to lead the agency going forward.”
Tyson has over 15 years of experience in the human services and behavioral health fields, most recently as Director of Operations at Intermountain Centers for Human Development in Tucson. His experience includes developing intensive intervention programs focused on maintaining children with complex behavioral health needs in their families’ homes, a program working with young adults aging out of the state foster care system, opening a private school for children with special education needs, and managing a comprehensive outpatient behavioral health continuum that served over 2,500 patients.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Coker College and a Master of Science in Counseling degree from the University of Phoenix. In addition to his professional accomplishments, he is a proud husband and father of five. Tyson and his wife are former foster parents who also had the wonderful opportunity to adopt two of their children.
His professional and personal experiences working with and within the child welfare system motivates him to ensure Aviva’s programs are of the highest quality because “Every child matters!"
