Sew A Thon 2010
The 11th Annual Sew-A-Thon was held on Saturday, March 13th, at the Pima Community College West Campus Dining Hall.  It was a huge success and so much fun.  The 126 men and women who attended produced 997 bags for kids bags.  They were sewing, serging, cording, sorting and counting.  There were great door prizes, instructions for the very youngest sewers and a lot of food including some scrumptious desserts. There was even a visit by the famous Maxine cartoon character. The weather was beautiful so folks could eat outside and take a quick break before they headed back to their machines.  Thank you all so much and many thanks to those who made bags before and after the event too.

If you would like more information or the pattern for the bags for kids, please call Pat Palmer at: 327.6779 ext. 37 or email: pat.palmer@avivatucson.org.

Sunquest  BBQ
Our friends at Sunquest held their annual barbeque this past December giving Aviva a great start to the holiday season. Staff enjoyed the lunch in exchange for toys, gift cards and monetary contributions. This year they donated over $3500 to jump start our Christmas giving program. Thanks Ken and Gang for your 10 years of giving to the children in CPS through Aviva!

Sun Rider's Toy Parade
The Sun Riders Motorcycle Club held their 28th Annual Holiday Toy Parade! This event is the largest fundraiser and collection of toys benefiting children in Child Protective Services' care.

This year the weather was great and so was the turn out.  There were over 1200 motorcycles lined up at Mo Udall Park on December 13th.  The new route took the riders through the east side of town to Beaudry RV.  People still lined the route and those in traffic honked in support and waved.  The end result was over 1000 toys and $10,000 collected and donated to Aviva. for the children in CPS care.  THANK YOU SUN RIDERS!

Wrapping Days
After the toy parade came wrapping days.  From Monday, December 14th through Thursday, December 24th, Aviva staff and volunteers filled stockings, wrapped presents, filled requests from case managers and bagged up all the gifts. In addition to the toys, each child received handmade items like pillows, blankets, quilts, hats and scarves, wooden cars and trucks plus stuffed animals.  This year they all received handmade stockings too that had been adopted by community members and filled with wonderful and generous gifts.  Thank you to all who contributed in some way to the Christmas Project.
